Faith's Checkbook (By: C.H. Spurgeon)

June 22, 2011

He with Us, We with Him

The fear of the Lord prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened.
                                                                             ~ Proverbs 10:27

"There is no doubt about it. The fear of the Lord leads to virtuous habits, and these prevent that waste of life that comes of sin and vice. The holy rest, which springs out of faith in the Lord Jesus, also greatly helps a man when he is ill. Every physician rejoices to have a patient whose mind is fully at ease. Worry kills, but confidence in God is like healing medicine.
We have therefore all the arrangements for long life; if it be really for our good, we shall see a good age. Let us not be overcome with sudden expectation of death the moment we have a finger ache.
This boy here was dying. Jesus
saw what was going on, and with
His faith in His Father, the boy
was healed instantly, and came out
of the coma that he was in and sat
up and thanked Jesus for healing
him. Jesus said it was not I who
healed you, but My Father who is
in Heaven.
And what if we should soon be called to the higher sphere? Certainly there would be nothing to deplore in such a summons, but everything to rejoice in.
The truest lengthening of life is to live while we live, wasting no time, but using every hour for the highest ends. So be it this day."

  1. Lord, give us the courage to not fear man, and to only fear You so that we may gain wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of the sole purpose of our lives. So that we can understand that we are not here to please our selves, or man, but rather to please You as a child does for their loving parent. Lord, help those who are in a situation that their are scared of leaving because they were threatened, or because they fear the situation more than they fear You. Lord, today we ask that You will open our hearts and open our spiritual eyes to the bigger picture, and open our ears so that we may hear You when You say it is time to pick up and leave. Lord, we ask this day that You will remove all stumbling blocks, pits, traps, snare, hills, and mountains from out of our way so that we can proceed in what You have called us to do, or to be the person that You have called us to be. This we pray and receive it, in Christ Jesus' precious Name, Amen.
